Mobile Skype

 Mobile Skype
Nokia owners have had a long wait to see Skype available on the Symbian Series 60 platform. After watching in envy as the revolutionary VOIP app was released for Windows Mobiles and iPhone, S60 users can now enjoy the magic of being able to make free calls over their data connection.
Skype for Series 60 allows you to make free Skype-to-Skype calls using a 3G or WiFi connection. It also lets you call phones with Skype credit, as well as allowing you to receive calls on your online number, send instant messages, share files, take part in group conversations, and more.
Using Skype on your phone is dead easy. Once launched, the program gives you all sorts of warnings to notify you that it will be using your mobile Internet connection. Then it's just a case of signing in with your regular Skype account details to get started. Your contacts will all be imported and displayed in the main window, and you get the option to add these to your phonebook if you like. To call a person, just tap on their name and hit 'Call'. The call quality in our tests was excellent, and as long as your connection is stable you shouldn't experience any drop outs.
Once you've established a conversation, you can do the kind of things you would do with the desktop version of Skype. The IM feature is quick and easy, including a range of emoticons, copy and paste support, and the ability to add other people to the chat.
Skype keeps a record of all your text conversations, as well as logging your call history, voicemails, and files exchanged. You can view this information at any time just by clicking the 'History' button from the well-organized main menu.
There are a few settings you can tinker around with that help you personalize your Skype experience. For instance, you can choose to enable or disable the Mood message prompt, activate audio notifications, and show or hide phonebook contacts. There's even an option for forwarding calls to another number.
If you're expecting a fully-fledged version of Skype that has all the features of the PC or Mac version of the program then you'll be a little disappointed. There's no video conferencing or games, for example, and there are no tools for organizing your contacts into categories.

Nokia Multimedia Player

Nokia Multimedia Player
Nokia Multimedia Player allows you to view, play and manage multimedia content.
Nokia Multimedia Player sets out to be a one-stop-shop for all your mobile multimedia needs. Unfortunately, it's a badly designed and poorly executed product which has never really been up to the standard of mainstream audio and video players.
Design disaster
After installing Nokia Multimedia Player (and suffering the inexplicable Windows restart which always accompanies a Nokia program installation), we were disappointed with an ugly, glitchy and clunky program interface. Nokia has created custom window decorations for the program, and sadly they're of a very low standard. Compared with other media players (iTunes, RealPlayer and even Windows Media Player), Nokia Multimedia Player's design is remarkably poor. Its ugly, 'jaggedy' elements are a real let down from the company responsible for designing some classic mobile phones.

Nokia Maps

Nokia Maps
Nokia Maps promises to be the mobile solution to navigating around the world, offering free maps for 150 countries
Nokia Maps provides a comprehensive route finder facility whether you want to get from street-to-street, city-to-city, or country-to-country. But more than that, with Nokia Maps you can locate 15 million tourist spots, meaning when you're in a new city the software will give you directions from wherever you are, telling you exactly how far you need to travel.
You can share these with friends and update and personalize your maps. Nokia Maps will work with GPS if your phone supports it. All you need to do to use the software is upload a city map onto your mobile and select what you want to search for, e.g. hotels or restaurants. Then follow the route.

Nimbuzz

Nimbuzz
Nimbuzz allows you to chat online, exchange instant messages and send files from your phone for free.
The application pulls all your contacts together in one place, so you can exchange messages with all your friends on networks such as MSN, AIM, Yahoo! Messenger, Google Talk, Jabber, Facebook, or MySpace.
The user interface combines all of your contacts from all these various networks into one place, and you can see who is online at any time. If you want to get someone's attention, you simply 'buzz' them, and Nimbuzz will be launched on their phone.
Remember that you'll still get charged for internet access when using Nimbuzz. This is fine if you're using a WiFi connection or if you have a flat-rate data plan, but if you pay for data by the megabyte then using Nimbuzz could work out to be very costly if you're not careful.

“Access your Sony Ericsson phone from your PC”

MyPhoneExplorer
MyPhoneExplorer allows you to monitor your Sony Ericsson phone from your home computer.
A connection with MyPhoneExplorer is established very quickly, and the package detects the device either via USB cable, Bluetooth or Infrared. Once you've synched, you can pretty much access everything on your PC. Perhaps one of the main uses for it is to co-ordinate your contacts. This is made very simple through MyPhoneExplorer and you simply need to click the 'Phone' or 'SIM' option under the 'Contacts' tab.

“Turn your phone into a webcam”

Mobiola WebCam
Mobiola WebCam is a cool app that turns your phone into a video camera for online chats. The software uses your mobile's camera as a fully-fledged webcam for Windows.
Video chat used to be something that we only dreamed about in films like Blade Runner or Total Recall. Now it's a reality and the technology has become so advanced that it's possible to chat face-to-face on your mobile phone. Mobiola WebCam basically consists of two parts: the client application on your phone and a webcam server installed on your PC that processes the images sent from your camera.
Mobiola WebCam's camera-to-PC communication all takes place via the magic of Bluetooth, meaning that images are processed pretty quickly, so there's not too much lag when transmitting them to the web, though obviously the smoothness will still depend on the speed of your net connection.

“Great 3D Counter Strike clone for Java phones”

Micro Counter Strike
Micro Counter Strike is a mobile version of the classic 3D first person shooter, Counter Strike.
Playing as either a terrorist or counter-terrorist, the aim of Micro Counter Strike is to take out your rivals using the many varied rifles, pistols and knives available in the game. You can choose to play against bots, or take on human opponents via Bluetooth, which is great fun.
The great thing about Micro Counter Strike is the sheer number of weapons, equipment and maps you can choose from, making it a mobile combat game that you'll be coming back to time and time again.
The look and feel of Micro Counter Strike is very similar to the original. The first-person 3D graphics look great and animation is slick (assuming your Java phone has a high enough spec to handle it). Unfortunately though, there is no sound in the game, which is one of Micro Counter Strike's few weak points.

Join the exciting qeep social network”

qeep 2.10
Many of us use our phones to keep in touch with our buddies on Facebook, Twitter or other networks we belong to. There are, however, a growing number of social networks designed specifically for mobile users - and queep is one of the best.
qeep is a free mobile application that connects you with your friends and allows you to make new ones online. It acts like a normal social network in the way you can view profiles, exchange messages, play games, 'nudge' people, etc. One of the main benefits of qeep is the fact that it's much cheaper to send a mail through the service (called a 'QMS') than it is to send a regular SMS message (if, of course, you have a cheap data plan).
I was impressed by the speed in which you can get up and running with qeep. You just need to choose a username and a password to get started. Your profile information, photo and personal data can be entered at your leisure and you can start using the qeep network without it.
The qeep interface is nicely laid-out (if you excuse the rather garish purple and green color scheme), and all of the things you can do are displayed neatly on the Homepage. From here you can invite friends, view qeepers who are currently online, view photoblogs and read the big pinboard.
Photoblogs and the pinboard are perhaps the two most interesting aspects of qeep. The photoblogging function allows you to quickly upload a picture you've just taken on your device's camera or one stored in the memory, and add text to it. Your photoblog will then be available for everyone else in the qeep community to see. A word of warning about this service though: not all of the photobloggers on the site are using it for innocently putting up pictures of their pets or great landscapes they've just seen. Let's just say there seem to be a lot of pretty 'liberal' qeepers out there.
The 'pinboard' function in qeep is a Twitter-style feature, whereby you can quickly jot down some text explaining what you're up to and your friends and other users can come along and view it. Another funny feature (if somewhat childish) is qeep's 'sound alerts', which are funny noises or phrases that you can send to a friend to listen to.
queep is a very well-implemented social networking service for mobile phones. Like most social networks though, it generally attracts a certain type of person. And as a result your enjoyment of it depends on who you are. qeep feels very much like it's aimed at teenagers or young-adults, preferably with an open mind.

“Burn some rubber in this authentic rally sim”

 Rally Master Pro

Rally Master Pro is a console-style rally game for mobile phones. It offers a slick combination of polished 3D graphics and high-octane driving action.
If you're a fan of extreme driving games like Sega Rally and Colin McRae then buckle up and get set for Rally Master Pro.
Rally Master Pro offers you the chance to play a career as a rally driver, moving up from amateur to expert over a series of 27 different tracks. The demo only allows you to play one rally over nine tracks in beginner mode, but it still offers enough enjoyment to keep you racing for hours.
Rally Master Pro offers a high level of realism, besides its excellent graphics and realistic car physics. Rallies are set over a variety of terrains, with differing weather conditions each time, and the cars respond accordingly. Damage is accumulated if you veer off the road or crash into a wall. This means that, although the controls are easy to learn (it's pretty much all done through the directional pad or the 2, 4, 6, and 8 keys), it requires a lot of skill to achieve glory in Rally Master Pro.
Other neat presentation touches in Rally Master Pro include changeable viewpoints, and a replay mode with playback controls. Aside from the carer mode, Rally Master Pro features a time trial mode, and some fun mini games that let you win points to repair damage.
